The STD Bus Concept
The STD Bus is a standardized, small format bus that
excels at machine and process control applications.
Compared to larger format buses (VME, MultiBus, etc.),
the 4.5" x 6.5" STD Bus boards are more rugged
and easier to integrate into larger systems.
Modular
The STD Bus is the epitome of a "building
block" computer system. Any STD board can be plugged
into any slot on the bus. STD Bus systems are easily
tailored to your current needs, and expanded or modified
just as easily for future requirements. You're never
locked into yesterday's designs.
Compatible
The compatibility of the STD Bus allows you to select
from hundreds of different boards from a wide range of
manufacturers. From analog/digital converters, to stepper
motor controllers, to video display generators, the STD
Bus provides off-the-shelf solutions for almost any
control application. The STD Bus boasts a wider selection
of interface boards than any other bus.
Further, VersaLogic STD systems are true industrial
PCs. You can order an industrial computer from VersaLogic
that is fully Microsoft DOS and Windows-compatible. Use
your favorite DOS or Windows development tools, such as
Borland C/C++ or Visual Basic for Windows to develop your
application. This compatibility with widely available
tools and environments, coupled with the inherent
physical ruggedness of STD systems, insures that your
industrial control application will come in on time and
on budget.
Rugged
The small format and simple interface of the STD Bus
contribute to its higher reliability. In addition, the
size and shape of STD Bus boards allow them to be
ruggedly packaged and operated in a variety of hostile
environments. VersaLogic STD Bus boards have typical MTBF
of 15 to 35 years (depending on board complexity).
Cost Effective
Combine these factors with its low cost and you can see
why the STD Bus is so widely used. From large
manufacturers to small OEMs, the reliability,
flexibility, and cost-effectiveness of the STD Bus makes
it an easy choice.
Growth Path
With the establishment of STD 32 as a 32-bit extension of
the STD Bus, current STD 80 users now have a significant
growth option for their systems. Higher performance
coupled with complete backward compatibility have made
STD 32 an easy to use and attractive option for expanding
designs.
