Linux
Linux is a generic term referring to Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel. Unlike most operating systems, the Linux kernel and other components are open source software. The modularity of the Linux kernel makes it well suited to embedded systems—it can be optimized for specific hardware configurations and usage situations, making it very lean for devices with limited resources. Additionally, the Linux kernel can be modified for real-time applications.
