VenturCom and VersaLogic Partner to Support Real-Time Operation of Windows NT Embedded for Rudder Control on U.S. Naval Destroyers

The VersaLogic Panther is now in migration phase. VersaLogic's Cheetah is a recommended replacement product due to its high processing power, advanced graphics capabilities and fanless operation. An integrated hardware and software solution has been selected by Litton Marine Systems, Inc. (Charlottesville, VA) for a rudder control system on U.S. Naval Destroyers. The system combines VersaLogic's Panther PC/104-Plus single board computer with VenturCom's RTX real-time Windows NT Embedded technology for Windows, the companies announced today. Litton Marine's RTX-based rudder control system contains four embedded VersaLogic embedded Pentium computers networked via a dual Ethernet connection running the Windows NT Embedded operating system. This design platform provides a robust user interface, a common development and testing platform, and integrates a number of pre-written off-the-shelf Windows-based applications. Under an agreement between VenturCom, Inc. and VersaLogic Corp. (Eugene, OR), VenturCom has created configurations which speed the development of real-time Windows NT and Windows NT Embedded-based systems across VersaLogic's Panther and VSBC-6, their PC/104-Plus and EBX single board computers. These configurations will be made available to engineers at no cost through VenturCom's website. VersaLogic also joins VenturCom's Channel Partner program, and becomes an official reseller of VenturCom's RTX and Platform Evaluator software packages. RTX is a design platform for Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows NT Embedded. Platform Evaluator is a tool for measuring real-time responsiveness across hardware platforms.
